There has been no published announcement from the Archdiocese of Toronto in reaction to the repugnant motu proprio of Pope Francis against the Holy Mass in its traditional form. There is no need. The current status quo applies. "Qui tacet consentit"  - silence gives consent! There will be no changes and for this, we can thank Thomas Cardinal Collins for his pastoral care and the announcements made last Sunday at all Masses that there will be "no changes." 

What we must do, as faithful in Christ, is to not despair and not abandon Our Mother, the Church at this time of Her suffering from abuse and a hostile takeover by malefactors. 

In Toronto and elsewhere, go to the Traditional Latin Mass. Go today and always. If you have never been, go anyway. Don't worry about not understanding or knowing what to do. Just go.

The abrogation of Summorum Pontificum

It is with deep regret that all of us learned of the rumoured and now fulfilled action by Francis, Bishop of Rome as he abrogates that which cannot be abrogated. At this time, we must remember that God is in charge. The motu proprio is a seriously flawed document. It is, as most which has come since the Second Vatican Council, poorly written and ambiguous. If he were not the alleged "supreme lawgiver" it would be an illegal document for its deficiencies. It is cruel, hurtful, vindictive and spiteful document and bears no sign of the Grace of the Holy Spirit. 

Our advice is to "Carry on." 

We will not submit to evil.

I am writing this letter to express my dismay and consternation of soul at the promulgation of the Motu Proprio Traditionis custodes which restricts the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass according to the Missale Romanum (editio typica, 1962) in use prior to the promulgation of the Novus Ordo Missae in 1970. 

Since the promulgation of the Motu Proprio of Summorum Pontificum of Pope Benedict XVI in 2005, I have been privileged to attend the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on a regular basis/ somewhat regular basis at …. Parish in…. Ontario.  I would like Your Holiness to know that I have derived immense spiritual benefits from the celebration of this Mass and the instruction I have received during it. My participation has been conscious, active and fruitful. As a result, my commitment to our faith has deepened. Our community has grown in fervour and charity and I have come to know, to understand and to love our faith more deeply. My commitment to Christian life spiritually and in active charity has intensified because of the spiritual nourishment I have received. 

I am asking Your Holiness to consider the spiritual needs of your children. We are sons and daughters of the Church who desire the greater glory of God, the salvation of our own soul and the salvation of all people. The charity of Christ Our Saviour which excludes no one, has urged me to write this letter; and it is my hope that Your Holiness will rescind your Motu Proprio bearing in mind what your venerable predecessor Pope Benedict XVI observed in the letter accompanying Summorum pontificum: what earlier generations held as sacred, remains sacred and great for us too, and it cannot be all of a sudden entirely forbidden or even considered harmful.

Father Robert Reddy - Requiescat in Pace

The Reverend Robert Reddy of the Archdiocese of Toronto has passed away. He was in residence at St. Mary's in Barrie and was formerly the pastor at Holy Family in Whitby, St. Andrew's Church in Brechin and at St. Mary Immaculate in Richmond Hill, Ontario which is where I came to know him. Father Reddy was a great priest, faithful, kind and doctrinally sound. While not offering the traditional Mass himself, he was a friend of tradition in every way. He welcomed the traditional Mass at St. Mary Immaculate by his Associate Pastor and never turned down a request by the Toronto Traditional Mass Society - Una Voce Toronto - for the use of the church for Feast Day Masses. 

I will miss him. 

Please remember Father Reddy in your prayers at Mass today in whatever way It takes place. 

O GOD, Thou didst raise Thy servant, Robert,

to the sacred priesthood of Jesus Christ,

according to the Order of Melchisedech,

giving him the sublime power

to offer the Eternal Sacrifice,

to bring the Body and Blood of Thy Son Jesus Christ down upon the altar,

and to absolve the sins of men in Thine own Holy Name.

We beseech Thee to reward his faithfulness

and to forget his faults,

admitting him speedily into Thy Holy Presence,

there to enjoy forever the recompense of his labours.

To all those who attended both of these Masses, thank you for your continued support and for your faith. 

We will have a Midnight Mass at the Carmel in Mississauga in addition to the Oratory and Society of St. Pius X. We will have a Missa Cantata on St. Stephen's Day and on Epiphany.

All contributions to the Mass at the Carmel go directly to the Sisters for their upkeep whilst they develop the new retirement home and chapel.

SUNG LATIN MASSES IN TORONTO FOR ADVENT 2018

The Toronto Traditional Mass Society is organising three Latin Masses according to the Roman Missal of 1962. All three are at St. Mary's Polish Roman Catholic Church on Davenport Road in Toronto. While parking is always difficult at St. Mary's all three of these are on Saturdays making parking a lot easier.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

We begin on Saturday, December 8 at 9:00AM with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Holy Family will have a Read Mass at 8:30AM and St. Lawrence the Martyr at 10:00AM. The Latin Mass is offered every Saturday at 9:00AM at St. Mary's except for the First Saturday of the month. This will be the only Sung Mass of the three.

 

RORATE MASS

On Saturday, December 15, the Votive Mass of Our Lady In Advent, also known as the Rorate Mass from the first word of the Introit will be offered at 7:00AM. Tradition is that the Mass begins in the early morning hours before dawn and ends as the sun breaks, from darkness into light.

EMBER SATURDAY OF ADVENT

Finally, on Saturday, December 22 at 9:00AM, the Mass will be for the Ember Saturday in Advent with its multiple prophetic Lessons and Graduals and the Canticle of the Three Children.

As a note, a Sung Mass will be held at 9:00AM on the Second Day of Christmas for the Feast of the Protomartyr, St. Stephen.
